Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking Overview

The Ghorepani Poonhill trekking is a delightful destination that can be done in a short period of time. In the past, trekkers would not want to miss the beauty of this place while traveling along the Annapurna Circuit trekking. Trekkers heading to Jomsom Muktinath or the Annapurna Base Camp would also trek through this area. Ghorepani village is situated at an altitude of 2,800 meters, while the viewpoint is at an altitude of 3,210 meters. From this place, you can see the beautiful Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna II, Lamjung, Manaslu, and many other Himalayan ranges. The sunrise is also enchanting, so travelers tend to come early in the morning.

Ghorepani Poonhill trekking starts from Pokhara and ends here. Previously, this trek used to take at least 5 days, but nowadays, due to the development of motor roads, it can be completed in 3 days. From Pokhara, you can take a jeep to Tikhedhunga, and from there, it’s about a 3-hour steep climb to Ulleri, where you stay for the night. The next day, after having breakfast, it’s about a 4-hour uphill trek to reach Ghorepani. Here, you can have lunch and explore the village surroundings. After enjoying the sunset, you have dinner and rest.

The next day is the most important day of this journey, as you wake up early in the morning and head towards Poon Hill. From here, you can enjoy the beautiful sunrise along with the Himalayan ranges. Trekkers share their happiness, take photos, and enjoy tea or coffee. After that, you return to the lodge and have breakfast.

From here, trekkers have options. Those with limited time can return to Pokhara by jeep from Tikhedhunga. Some may add another day and return to Pokhara via Tadapani and Ghandruk. Others might continue towards Jomsom or the Annapurna Base Camp.

Best Time to Ghorepani Poonhill trekking

Spring and Autumn is the best time to trek in this area. In spring, the sky is clear, allowing for distant views and excellent opportunities to see and photograph the mountains. The blooming rhododendron forests make the journey even more exciting. In autumn, the clear skies and the festive season in Nepal offer a unique experience. During winter, those who wish to experience snowfall will find this route suitable. Monsoon season, however, brings clouds that obscure the mountains, rain, and the problem of leeches, making the trek a bit challenging. Despite this, there will be some trekkers along the route.

Lodging and Facilities in Ghorepani Poonhill trekking

During the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, clean and delicious food is available, along with clean rooms for accommodation. Rooms with bathrooms are also available. According to local customs, meals are taken at the lodge where you stay. The Annapurna Conservation Project collaborates with local lodge management committee to control the menu and quality. Additionally, most of the lodges here are equipped with electricity, internet, and both hot and cold water facilities. In the dining rooms, there is heating, providing an opportunity to interact with other trekkers, share experiences, and get to know each other during mealtime.

Trekking guides, Porters, and Safety

Although this trekking route is not very difficult, there are occasional reports of tourists getting lost or encountering minor incidents. For this reason, we provide trained guides and porters. The guides assist with local customs, flora, mountains, and lodge bookings to make the trek easier, while the porters help carry loads.
